Even on the hottest summer day you feel the cold from the remains of chamber mining that created a collapse pit. The microclimate once kept ice and snow year-round. After deforestation around the so-called Wolf Pits and a heavy-handed intervention in 2005, when snow and ice were removed from the Ice Pit, there is no ice or snow left in the Ice Pit.

A unique artificial canal used for ore mining and as a power base for industry in Horní Blatná. Water from the Boží Dar peat bogs was used for washing ore and driving machines, not only in the local mines. Construction began in 1540; today most of the roughly 12 km route is maintained. An educational trail runs along the ditch.

Blatenský vrch (1,043 m) lies northeast of Horní Blatná. On the summit are a lookout tower (Ziti lookout) and a TV transmitter; nearby are the Wolf Pits and the Blatná water ditch. The tower is closed in winter — check the town website for current opening news.

The rock overhang „Strašidla“ (Spooks) is about 2.5 km from the cottage and suits practice climbing. Nearby you will find hiking and cycling routes, and in winter links to cross-country trails including the Ore Mountains magistrale.
